Release the Oppressed – #DailyDelightDevotional

Daily Delight Devotional – Wednesday, June 21 2023

The Spirit of the Lord is upon me because he hath anointed me to preach the gospel to the poor; he hath sent me to heal the brokenhearted, to preach deliverance to the captives, and recovering of sight to the blind, to set at liberty them that are bruised.

– Luke 4:18, KJV

Who are the oppressed? The KJV version called them the bruised. They are those who are physically, emotionally, mentally and spiritually burdened. Today, millions of souls are pressed by the conditions surrounding them. Wives are oppressed by their husbands and vice versa. Others are oppressed by children, parents, siblings and peers. Many also face cultish pressures, work pressures and other inhibitions from alcohol, drugs, sexual habits, fear, anxiety, and from relatives, neighbours and so on.

Jesus grew to become our burden bearer. He said,

Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you and learn from me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For my yoke is easy and my burden light.

– Matthew 11:28-30, NIV

Only Jesus can set you free and provide relief for the many things that oppress the oppressors. In order to receive relief, you must go to Jesus, lay your problems at His feet and humbly ask Him for solutions. Also, you must be willing to forsake any sin of your own that may be a contributing factor.

Insight: Jesus has promised to bear our burdens as we faithfully present them to Him and also learn from Him; it implies that we must be teachable and obedient.

Prayer: Father, deliver me from any form of oppression of the enemy in the name of Jesus.
