Identificational Repentance – #DailyDelightDevotional

Daily Delight Devotional – Monday, August 21 2023

If my people, which are called by my name, shall humble themselves, and pray, and seek my face, and turn from their wicked ways; then will I hear from heaven, and will forgive their sin, and will heal their land.

– 2 Chronicles 7:14, KJV

God is calling his children to a new level of repentance, not only repentance for our personal sins and corporate fasting. In a sense, it is God calling on us to recognize our own injustices and to repent from them so that healing can take place. As a child of God, only the blood of Jesus can truly cleanse and heal these wounds. Christians not only have the right to apply the blood, but we must do it! It is not enough to have the right to avail ourselves of the blood of Christ.

There is a strong biblical precedence for this identificational repentance. One of the most beautiful prayers in the Bible is when Daniel, one who was highly esteemed in the heavens prayed for forgiveness of his people as he identified with their sins. He prayed, “We have sinned…” (Daniel 9:5)

The prophet Ezra understood this when he asked God to forgive the sins of his people and referred to himself and others as “a remnant” (Ezra 9:8). Nehemiah also made this type of identificational prayer of forgiveness.

God is calling you to build up the walls as well as stand in the gap. You must work as intercessory prayer. Prayer works with an understanding of what deep repentance can do.

Insight: God is calling you to partake of the worldwide vision of targeted intercessory prayer, spiritual warfare, and identificational repentance which will heal every land and make the way clear for the preaching of the gospel in these last days.

Prayer: Father, continue to send Your Spirit to call our spirits to unite with Yours as we identify the sins of our family, church and nation for forgiveness in Jesus’ name.
