Death and life are in the power of the tongue: and they that love it shall eat the fruit thereof.

Proverbs 18:21 (KJV)

God rules by His word. The Bible says He has elevated His word above His name (Psalm 138:2). His name is already awesomely powerful, for His word declares that His name is excellent in all the earth (Psalm 8:1).

Everything we see was made by the spoken word of God. God’s word has creative power. The words you speak are, therefore, powerful since you were created in the image of God. The Lord demonstrated this when he brought every living creature to Adam to see what he would call them. Adam gave names to all of them. Man exercised for the first time his dominion on earth by his word.

You must recognize that there is incredible power in the words you speak. Spoken words can also release faith or fear that has been stored up on the inside. You can create, and you can kill with your words.

Insight: The words of others form and shape an individual’s self-image. Just as the wrong diet of food can make one physically sick, the wrong diet of words can make one mentally or emotionally sick.

Prayer: Father, I receive a creative word of God, in the name of Jesus.
