Withhold not good from them to whom it is due when it is in the power of thine hand to do it.

Proverbs 3:27, KJV

Don’t overlook or walk past the person you can do good to or help, because the one you help today may be the key to your future blessings. In the Bible, in 1 Samuel 30, David had just set out on a journey. As he continued, he encountered a dying slave. The natural response at this point would have been to leave the slave behind as he seemed almost beyond help. However, David chose a different path. He said, “Pick him up, feed him, bind his wounds, and make him comfortable.” When the young man regained his strength, they discovered he was an Egyptian, a slave of one of the Amalekites who had raided his own camp.

This ordinary slave boy led David to the very people he had desperately sought. In the end, David recovered all. It was this act of kindness to a seemingly insignificant slave that played a part in determining David’s destiny.

Insight: In moments when we need help, God’s infinite mercy often places someone in our path to assist us. Be willing to extend kindness to those around you.

Prayer: Father, help me to continually do good to the people I encounter, in the name of Jesus.
