Therefore all things whatsoever ye would that men should do to you, do ye even so to them: for this is the law and the prophets.
Matthew 7:12, KJV
The most effective way to receive encouragement is to be an encourager yourself. There’s a saying, “One good turn deserves another.” The late Norman Vincent Peale once said, “When you encourage others, you fill your own heart with courage.” Our Lord, Jesus, lived His entire life encouraging people, especially those who were rejected, dejected, downtrodden, and considered outcasts. In response to the criticism of the Pharisees, He said in the Gospel of Matthew, chapter 9, verse 12, “Those who are well have no need of a physician.” Jesus’s primary purpose on earth was to uplift those who were down.
There are people around you who are looking up to you for encouragement. You can overcome despondency by uplifting someone else. Just a word of encouragement from you can brighten another person’s day. No matter what you are going through, be encouraged because the Lord can and will lift you up. There is no pit so deep that He is not deeper still, and no valley so dark that the light of His truth cannot penetrate. Encouragement is a powerful gift that has the ability to initiate change and endure.
Insight: There are people who need your encouragement. Give it, and it will come back to you multiplied.
Prayer: Father, grant me the spirit of encouragement to uplift others, in the name of Jesus.
