If I regard iniquity in my heart, the Lord will not hear me.
– Psalm 66:18
There is always something behind unanswered prayers. Let’s talk about one of such things. If you hold any particular sin in your heart and cover it up, it becomes a cause of controversy between you and God. God hates sin, but He has a remedy for sin.
If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.
– 1 John 1:9
So it is not primarily the fact of sin; it is a love for sin, a willingness to sin, and excusing of sin that makes God refuse answers to our prayers. Unconfessed sins will hinder liberty in prayer.
Sin is like a weight on the spirit, creating a sense of heaviness and deadness. To get along with God, keep sweet fellowship with Him and get rid of unanswered prayers, you need to judge your sins. You must honestly confess your sins and take sides with God against them. There must be wholehearted repentance, that is, turning the will away from all the things that grieve God.
The Bible says, “He that turneth away his ear from hearing the law, even his prayer shall be abomination.” (Proverbs 28:9). That is, if your ears are turned away from the Bible and if you do not meditate on it prayerfully and joyfully, your prayer is likely to be an abomination before God.
Insight: Unforgiveness in the heart of a Christian hinders the answers to his prayers. Hatred, grudge, bitterness, envy, and malice block answers to prayers more than anything else.
Prayer: Father, grace me with genuine repentance and hatred for sin to walk in covenant relationships with you in the name of Jesus.
