Start children off on the way they should go, and even when they are old they will not turn from it.
– Proverbs 22:6, NIV
We live in a world where distraction is everywhere. Our children are not left out. This is why Kingdom parenting is an intentional journey, where we navigate the currents of our secular world while instilling sound biblical values in our children. We cannot afford to do less.
Daniel and his friends could make firm decisions because the values instilled in them were firm and made them resolute in their decisions, irrespective of the pressure of the world around them.
How do we parent our children the kingdom way?
- Discernment in Media Consumption: In a world saturated with various influences, exercise discernment in what your children watch, read, and listen to. Encourage content that aligns with biblical principles.
- Open Dialogue and Explanation: Foster an environment where your children feel comfortable discussing secular ideologies they encounter. As much as you may not have control over what they encounter, ensure you offer explanations grounded in biblical truth. This allows them to navigate the complexities of the world with a solid foundation. Don’t shut them out. Don’t give absolute answers. Let the discussion stir them to see the truth in the Word of God.
- Prayer for Discernment: Pray for discernment as parents to guide your children through the secular landscape. Job intentionally helped his children in their relationship with God. He also offered prayers for them in case they strayed. Ensure you seek God’s wisdom in addressing challenges and uncertainties and trust in His guidance.
Insight: Kingdom parenting is the intentional cultivation of strong faith in children, guiding them through the secular influences of the world.
Prayer: Heavenly Father, grant us discernment and wisdom as we navigate the secular influences around us. May our children grow in the firm foundation of Your Word. Amen.
