Give us this day our daily bread.

– Matthew 6:11, NKJV

Sarah lived in Lagos, a city that tends to take more from you than what you are prepared to give it. She was striving to climb the corporate ladder and found her days filled with meetings, deadlines, and unending work. After each day, she often found herself feeling overwhelmed and anxious about the uncertainties of the future.

One evening, as she sat in her apartment contemplating her next career move, she felt a gentle nudge in her spirit to pause and pray. With a sigh, she bowed her head and whispered, “Lord, give me the strength and wisdom to navigate the challenges ahead. Provide for my needs according to Your perfect plan.”

After that simple prayer, the most amazing peace came over her. When she woke up the next morning, she realized how much she had been short-changing herself as she had the best sleep in over two weeks. She had just learned the importance of putting her total dependence on God’s provision. Though she possessed skills and resources, she recognized that true peace comes from trusting in God’s sovereignty.

As she entered the office that day, she encountered unexpected obstacles and setbacks as usual. However, something had changed. Instead of succumbing to anxiety, she chose to lean on God’s promises, believing that God would come through for her and indeed, He did.

In a world that often values self-sufficiency and independence, it can be easy to overlook our need for God’s provision. However, Jesus through the Lord’s prayer reminds us that our greatest strength lies in our dependence on Him. God knows our needs even before we ask, and He is faithful to provide for us each day. He knows the intricacies of our lives and the challenges we may face. As we pray, give us this day our need – it could be food, money, help, people, or even peace – we surrender our desires and plans to God, trusting that His provision is always timely and sufficient.

Insight: By acknowledging His sovereignty and wisdom, we can experience His abundant grace and mercy in every area of our lives.

Prayer: Lord, help me to trust in Your wisdom and sovereignty, knowing that You will supply all my needs according to Your riches in glory. Amen.
