Behold, I am the Lord, the God of all flesh. Is there anything too hard for Me?
– Jeremiah 32:27, NKJV
Zechariah and Elizabeth, a righteous couple, longed for a child but remained childless in their old age. When the angel Gabriel appeared to Zechariah with the news of Elizabeth’s impending pregnancy, doubt clouded his heart. In contrast, Mary, upon hearing a similar message from the angel concerning the miraculous conception of Jesus, responded with unwavering faith, saying, “Let it be to me according to your word” (Luke 1:38, NKJV).
The contrast between Zechariah’s scepticism and Mary’s faith highlights the importance of trusting God’s word amid uncertainties. Despite their advanced age and barrenness, Zechariah and Elizabeth witnessed the fulfilment of God’s promise with the birth of their son, John the Baptist. Mary’s unwavering faith also bore fruit as she became the mother of Jesus, the Saviour of the world.
As Christians, we are called to emulate Mary’s response of faith, trusting in God’s word despite the world’s uncertainties. In these times of hardship and doubt, we can find solace in the assurance that nothing is too hard for the Lord. Don’t dwell on the realities around you. Don’t join the bandwagon to confess negative things. The just live by their faith. Just as God fulfilled His promises to Zechariah and Elizabeth, He will also fulfil His promises to us, for His word never fails.
Insight: In moments of doubt and uncertainty, remember that God is faithful to His promises.
Prayer: Lord, help me to trust in Your unfailing word, knowing that nothing is too hard for You. Amen.
