And his master saw that the Lord was with him and that the Lord made all he did to prosper in his hand.
– Genesis 39:3, NKJV
As believers, our work ethic and attitude in the workplace reflect our faith and commitment to God. Demonstrating excellence and integrity in all we do is not only a hallmark of a believer but also a means through which God can bless and elevate us. The story of Joseph provides a powerful example of how a spirit of excellence, even in adverse circumstances, can lead to God’s favour and promotion.
Joseph’s journey is a testament to the power of maintaining excellence and integrity regardless of the situation. As a young man sold into slavery by his brothers, Joseph found himself in Potiphar’s house in Egypt. Despite the injustice and hardship, Joseph chose to work diligently and with excellence. His attitude and performance did not go unnoticed; Potiphar recognized that the Lord was with Joseph and made him overseer of his household, entrusting him with all that he had (Genesis 39:2-4).
However, Joseph’s integrity was tested when Potiphar’s wife falsely accused him, leading to his imprisonment. Even in prison, Joseph continued to exhibit a spirit of excellence. He earned the trust of the prison keeper, who put Joseph in charge of all the prisoners (Genesis 39:22). Joseph’s unwavering commitment to excellence and integrity in both Potiphar’s house and the prison ultimately positioned him for a divine appointment. His ability to interpret Pharaoh’s dreams led to his promotion to the second-highest position in Egypt, overseeing the land during a time of great famine (Genesis 41:39-41).
Joseph’s story illustrates that God rewards those who work with excellence and integrity, regardless of their circumstances or the environment they find themselves in.
Insight: Like Joseph, our dedication to excellence and integrity can lead to divine favour and elevation, not only in our careers but in other aspect of our lives.
Prayer: Lord empower us to work diligently and with a positive attitude, trusting that You will bless and elevate us in due time in Jesus’ name, Amen.
