Humility and Servanthood – #DailyDelightDevotional

Daily Delight Devotional – Saturday, July 20, 2024

Let nothing be done through selfish ambition or conceit, but in lowliness of mind let each esteem others better than himself. Let each of you look out not only for his own interests, but also for the interests of others.

– Philippians 2:3-4, NKJV

The last but not the least virtues to be addressed in this series on Christian character is Humility and servanthood. These are fundamental qualities that reflect the heart of Christ. Jesus exemplified these traits throughout His life, culminating in His ultimate act of service on the cross. The Apostle Paul lets us know in his letter to the Philippian Church that Jesus took on the form of a servant and humbled Himself to the point of death on the cross. (Philippians 2:5-7)

Humility helps us to see as He sees. We mirror His nature when we are humble. It helps us to create healthy meaningful relationships. We are able to consider others whether they are better than us or we are good than them. As believers in Christ, we see one another on the same pedestal as this is what Christ brought us. Humility helps us to serve. We are able to prioritize other people’s welfare and serve selflessly just as Christ did. And more importantly, God rates the humble and exalts them. The humble receive grace from God. (James 4:6) This grace expands our value beyond who we are and makes us able to receive God’s reward just as Jesus, our Lord did.

Insight: As believers, we are called to embody humility and a servant’s heart in our daily lives.

Prayer: Lord, teach me to be humble and to serve others as You did.

Daily Bible Reading: John 1-2
