Daily Delight Devotional – Thursday, September 12, 2024
I beseech you therefore, brethren, by the mercies of God, that you present your bodies a living sacrifice, holy, acceptable to God, which is your reasonable service.
– Romans 12:1, NKJV
Without sacrifice, raising an altar is useless. That is because sacrifice is at the heart of raising a godly altar in your home. In the Old Testament, God instituted the sacrifices at the altars — where offerings were made to God in worship and repentance. Since the Old Testament is a shadow of things to come, and by the New Covenant, we are called to offer spiritual sacrifices. These start with ourselves, our time, our resources – a lifetime of commitment to God.
In our text today, Paul urges us to present ourselves as living sacrifices. This means that our daily lives should be an ongoing act of worship, where we offer our time, energy, and resources to God. As a family, setting aside time for worship, prayer, and service to God becomes an altar of sacrifice that invites His presence into your home.
Time is one of our most valuable resources, and offering it to God is a profound act of worship. As a family, setting aside time for daily devotions, prayer, and Bible study is essential in building a strong spiritual foundation. It is through consistent time spent with God that your family grows in faith, understanding, and unity.

In the same way, as God has blessed each family with financial, material, or talents and gifts, we must dedicate a portion of these resources to God’s work. When you do this, you are honouring Him as the source of all your provision. Serving God as a family goes beyond occasional acts of worship. It requires a deep commitment to live in obedience to God’s Word and be willing to serve His purposes. Your family altar becomes a place where your commitment to God is demonstrated through service to others.
Insight: Your sacrifice reflects your devotion to God and invites His blessings into your home.
Prayer: Lord, may my family altar be a place of devotion and commitment to Your purposes. Amen.
