When I was a child, I spake as a child, I understood as a child, I thought as a child: but when I became a man, I put away childish things.
– 1 Corinthians 13:11
There is a time to be a child, and there is a time to grow up. Paul reminds us that maturity is a personal choice. He said, “I put away childish things.” This means growing up begins when we decide to change the way we speak, think, and act.
Children often think only about themselves. They speak without thinking and don’t understand the bigger picture. But as we grow in Christ, we must change how we think. We must begin to think like Jesus – thinking about others, about purpose, and about the will of God.
Spiritual maturity is not about knowing many Bible verses, but about living them daily. It’s about responding in love, walking in wisdom, and being strong in faith. When you stop thinking like a child, you will start walking like a man of God.
Insight: Maturity begins with your thoughts. Change your thinking, and your life will follow.
Prayer: Dear Lord, help me to put away childish thinking. Give me wisdom to think and act like a mature believer. Let my life reflect the mind of Christ. Amen.
