I remember your genuine faith, for you share the faith that first filled your grandmother Lois and your mother, Eunice. And I know that same faith continues strong in you.
– 2 Timothy 1:5, NLT
Laying strong foundations is not just a choice; it’s a legacy we gift to our children to shape their faith journey for a lifetime. Timothy who was a mentee of Apostle Paul, accompanying him on his missionary journeys later became the Bishop of the Church at Ephesus and a strong faith figure in the early church. This was possible because he had a strong foundation in the scriptures.
Timothy’s early exposure to scripture is one of the secrets to building strong foundations. This was attributed to his mother and grandmother. We are challenged by this to introduce our children to the timeless stories and teachings of the Bible from an early age. Make Scripture a part of their daily lives through family devotion and prayer altars.
Create a prayerful atmosphere for your children. Create a home where prayer is a natural and integral part of daily routines. Let your children witness the power of prayer in your life and encourage them to communicate with God uniquely.
Most importantly, model Christ-like behaviour to your children. Children learn by example. Be the example of the values and virtues of a Christ-centered life in your words and actions. You can’t expect your children to develop an affinity for the word of God if you don’t model such an attitude. Your consistency in living out your faith speaks volumes.
By intentionally nurturing their faith journey, we not only prepare them for the challenges of life but also instil in them a foundation that withstands the test of time.
Insight: Laying strong foundations in our children is a gift that shapes their faith journey for a lifetime.
Prayer: Lord, may the foundation of faith I lay for my children be strong and enduring, leading them closer to You in Jesus’ name. Amen.
