Therefore, as the elect of God, holy and beloved, put on tender mercies, kindness, humility, meekness, longsuffering.
– Colossians 3:12, NKJV
Compassion is a life-transforming virtue that reflects the heart of Jesus. Kindness, as an extension, is a way to reach lives without visibly touching them. These virtues demonstrate God’s love to everyone around us.
Jesus Christ consistently showed compassion and kindness to everyone he met. He had no restriction on who received a measure of His compassion and kindness – be it a Jew, the marginalized Samaritan, the despised tax collector and Roman officers, the self-acclaimed saint, or the dejected sinner and outcast. No one was excluded.
We cannot build healthy or meaningful relationships without compassion and kindness. They are foundational to empowering trust in relationships. By showing acts of kindness and compassion, we bring healing to those who are hurting and strength to those who are losing faith. If Jesus could do these and more, we must follow His example to reveal His love to the world.
From today, I urge you to strive to understand and share the feelings of others. Put yourself in their shoes and respond with a heart of empathy. Show genuine concern and interest in their success. Seek opportunities to serve no matter how small. Either through words or actions, extend the same grace that God has shown to us to others around us. By these, everyone will know that we are Christ’s disciples (John 13:35).
Insight: Compassion and kindness reflect the heart of Christ and demonstrate God’s love to those around us.
Prayer: Lord, help me that my actions will bring healing, encouragement, and hope to those around me.
