Covenant Over Contract – #DailyDelightDevotional

Yet you say, ‘For what reason?’ Because the Lord has been witness between you and the wife of your youth… Yet she is your companion and your wife by covenant.

– Malachi 2:14

For this reason a man shall leave his father and mother and be joined to his wife, and the two shall become one flesh.

– Ephesians 5:31–32

Marriage, from God’s perspective, is not a casual agreement but a sacred covenant. Unlike a contract that can be voided when terms are not met, a covenant is binding, sacrificial, and enduring. God calls spouses to be faithful just as He is faithful to us, even when it’s uncomfortable or difficult.

In Kingdom marriages, this covenant mindset fuels forgiveness, humility, and relentless commitment. When both partners understand that they are accountable not just to each other but to God, they strive to uphold integrity and honour in their relationship. The marriage becomes a picture of Christ’s unwavering love for the church.

Our culture may encourage easy exits, but Kingdom marriages endure by grace, even through seasons of disappointment or failure. It’s not perfection that holds you together, but commitment and God’s help.

Insight: God designed marriage as a covenant — a reflection of His own faithfulness.

Prayer: Father, remind us that we’re bound together not by a contract but by a covenant with You. Teach us to stay faithful, even when it’s hard.
