But you shall receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you; and you shall be witnesses to Me in Jerusalem, and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the end of the earth.
– Acts 1:8 NKJV
One of the most powerful aspects of the Holy Spirit’s work in a believer’s life is the empowerment for evangelism. Jesus, before His ascension, assured His disciples that they would receive power when the Holy Spirit came upon them. This power was not just for their personal growth but also for the bold proclamation of the Gospel.
Sharing the Gospel requires courage, especially in environments where there may be opposition or indifference. The Holy Spirit gives believers the boldness to speak about Jesus, to stand firm in their faith, and to testify of His work in their lives. As seen throughout the book of Acts, once timid and unsure, the apostles became fearless witnesses after the Holy Spirit empowered them.
Effective evangelism isn’t just about speaking boldly; it’s about speaking clearly. The Holy Spirit enables us to communicate the Gospel in a way that resonates with the hearts of those we encounter. Jesus told His apostles that the Holy Spirit will teach them what to say when they’re brought before authorities (Luke 12:12). At the time when clarity and confidence is required, the Holy Spirit brings to remembrance the words of Christ and also gives us wisdom in how to share His message of love and salvation.
We cannot afford not to partner with the Holy Spirit. He empowers us not only to reach those close to us (Jerusalem, Judea and Samaria) but also to cross cultural, geographical, and social boundaries, spreading the Good News wherever we go (the ends of the earth).
Insight: The Holy Spirit empowers us to be bold and effective witnesses.
Prayer: Holy Spirit, empower me to be an effective witness for Christ. Amen.
