Most men will proclaim each his own goodness, but who can find a faithful man?

– Proverbs 20:6, NKJV

We live in a world where promises are easily broken and commitments often waver, faithfulness and dependability stand out as vital qualities of a Christ-like character. Being faithful and dependable in our commitments reflects our integrity and trustworthiness, which in turn mirrors the steadfast nature of God.

Since the start of this series on Christian character, I have laid good emphasis on reflecting God’s nature because that is who we are called to be. God is faithful. He is dependable. He doesn’t break His promises or fail in His covenants. As God’s children and Christ’s followers, we are to exhibit these same qualities.

Be it with family, friends, co-workers, or members of the same body of Christ, faithfulness and dependability are foundational to garnering trust. It is not news that people depend on those who keep their word and follow through on their commitments. This virtue will help us serve as a testimony to others about who we are in Christ. We have to demonstrate the kind of difference that being in Christ makes.

Insight: Being faithful and dependable reflects God’s unwavering nature and builds trust in our relationships.

Prayer: Lord, help me to be faithful and dependable in all my commitments.
