For which of you, intending to build a tower, sitteth not down first, and counteth the cost, whether he have sufficient to finish it?
– Luke 14:28
Planning is deciding now what you want to achieve with your money later. Start with clear goals. Decide what you need this month, this year, and in five years. Make simple steps that lead to each goal.
The sermon suggested keeping 20 per cent set aside first. One practical plan is to split your income so you keep 80 per cent for use after setting aside 20 per cent.
Another helpful plan is the 30/70 principle. Set aside 30 per cent first. Use that 30 per cent like this: 10 per cent for tithe, 10 per cent for savings and investment, and 10 per cent for personal development.
Use the remaining 70 per cent for your regular living costs. Write these rules down and follow them. Adjust as your income changes, but keep the habit of planning and saving.
Insight: A written plan turns wishes into actions and helps you avoid spending outside your means.
Prayer: Lord, help me to plan my money with wisdom. Teach me to set goals and follow simple steps each month. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
