O generation of vipers, how can ye being evil speak good things? For out of the abundance of the heart the mouth speaketh.
– Matthew 12:34, KJV
Scriptures repeatedly emphasize that God measures your life by your words. Your speech is the most obvious and accurate measure of the reality and depth of your Christian experience of the extent of your love to Christ and the extent of your love toward others. God makes very clear in His Word how closely Heaven notices and records our words. God is keeping the record of all your loving words, helpful words and encouraging words – plus the words you uttter in prayer. You cannot possibly remember them all but God has the record and all will add to your reward in heaven.
Words are important because they live on in their influence in other people’s lives. Satan wants us to say the wrong things or at least to waste our time and our words as much as possible. What did Jesus mean when He said we would give an account for every careless word at the judgement (Matthew 12:36)? Certainly! It is easy to be careless with our words. They can damage far more than we intend but once spoken, they are recorded for judgement.
God measures all our words; the words that build up. Take your choice. Words can show your Christian love. Words can help people to Christ. Words can build up and strengthen your fellow Christians. You can fill your conversations with words about the Lord, and as you do your heavenly Father will be your constant listener.
Insight: Measure your life by your words and conversation. Allow the Spirit to prompt you to speak to someone or guide you in speaking words of blessing.
Prayer: Father, engrace me to be speaking right word with joy to myself, people and destiny in the name of Jesus.
