One Thing Thou Lackest – #DailyDelightDevotional

Now when Jesus heard these things, he said unto him, Yet lackest thou one thing: sell all that thou hast and distribute unto the poor, and thou shalt have treasure in heaven: and come, follow me.

– Luke 18:22, KJV

This young man had all the ingredients that the world looks for — wealth, youth and power but, he recognized that there was a huge vacuum in his life. You should be happy and eager to know the truth. Searching for truth is a godly thing to do. The young man lost the best he was lacking because of his misplaced priority. He came to the right source for help.

God created man with a vacuum — an emptiness in his soul. This rich young man asked the right question: “What shall I do that I may inherit eternal life?” Jesus told him what to do. He was to rid himself of that which stood between himself and God. Doing what Jesus told him would have revealed whether or not he had completely committed himself to God and had genuine faith. There is no sin in possessions. However, when possessions become your highest priority in life, you have a serious problem. When your riches or wealth become the focus of your attention, you may be living for it without living for God. Many are in affluence — living for money and other things. When a man truly repents, he must rid himself of that which stands between himself and God.

Insight: Why did Jesus ask this young man to get rid of his possessions? It’s not that possessions were evil but because his possessions which should have been a way for him to serve God became a barrier resulting in a lack of commitment and dedication to God.

Prayer: Father, help me to get rid of whatever thing is standing in my way of dedication and commitment in the name of Jesus.
