Train up a child in the way he should go, and when he is old he will not depart from it.

– Proverbs 22:6, NKJV

A deep, personal relationship with God is one of the greatest legacies you can leave for your children. This is why the family altar is a place of worship and prayer for parents and a place where children can learn to connect with God independently. By intentionally guiding your children in prayer, worship, and Bible study, you help them build the foundation of their faith, which will serve them for a lifetime.

One of the quickest ways children learn is by imitation. The way you model prayer will shape their understanding of communicating with God. Aside from setting up time for family prayer, also encourage them to pray on their own. Teach them that prayer is not just about asking for things but is a time to talk to God and listen for His guidance. Let them know that worship is a personal act that draws them closer to God. When you read the Bible together as a family, gift them age-appropriate tools to study God’s Word independently. Encourage them to ask questions, explore Bible stories, and how to apply biblical truths to their lives.

Don’t forget to make it consistent. It is important. These spiritual disciplines will help them as they grow to face life with confidence because they have a personal relationship with God.

Insight: Set your children on the path to knowing God for themselves as their faith will last a lifetime.

Prayer: Lord, let my children grow in their knowledge of You.

Daily Bible Reading: Ezekiel 17-20
