Daily Delight Devotional – Wednesday, November 1, 2023

Then this Daniel was preferred above the presidents and princes because an excellent spirit was in him; and the king thought to set him over the whole realm.

Daniel 6:3 (KJV)

Despite being a prisoner of war in Babylon, Daniel had an excellent spirit that set him apart and elevated him, even in a foreign land. He was separated from friends and family, yet he distinguished himself and was outstanding. Excellence is not an accident; it requires conscious and conscientious effort. You need to consistently do the right thing, demonstrating steadiness and steadfastness in pursuing a task to achieve excellence.

The key to excellence is faithfulness. Faithfulness caused Daniel to stand out, and it sustained him. Right living was the hallmark of his life. Daniel was a faithful person, and no charge, fault, error, or fault was found in him (Daniel 6:4). Faithfulness means staying focused, staying on course, and doing the right thing consistently. It means not getting distracted by peers, family, or anything else.

The man who knows what is right and stays with it will manifest an excellent spirit. Excellence brings favor and promotion. When you stand out, people will look for you.

Insight: Someone once said, “People forget how fast you did a job but remember how well you did it.” You can make excellence a habit.

Prayer: Father, help me to cultivate an excellent spirit in all that I do. Make me outstanding through faithfulness and right living, in the name of Jesus.
