Two are better than one because they have a good return for their labor: If either of them falls down, one can help the other up. But pity anyone who falls and has no one to help them up.
– Ecclesiastes 4:9-10, NIV
You are familiar with the phrase, no man is an island That is because strong and meaningful relationships are not just a pleasant aspect of life; they’re vital for purposeful living. No one can grow without the impact of others. The early Church was able to make a good impact from not only their unity of heart and mind but they also invested in quality relationship habits.
How do you grow good relationship habits?
- Effective Communication: Cultivate the habit of open and honest communication. Share your thoughts, feelings, and dreams with your family and fellow believers. Apostle James admonishes us to be vulnerable with each other (James 5:16). This is because effective communication strengthens bonds and fosters a sense of unity.
- Empathy: You cannot get the best of others if you don’t understand them. Develop a habit of empathy, and understanding the perspectives and emotions of others. Apostle Paul said, “Rejoice with those who rejoice. Weep with those who weep.” (Romans 12:15) Walk alongside fellow brethren in their joys and challenges, creating a supportive environment where everyone feels valued.
- Shared Experiences: Shared experiences ensure a mistake made is not repeated. Create lasting memories through shared experiences. When one falls, it is an opportunity to encourage and offer help. Not an opportunity to neglect and ridicule. Our shared experiences are what shape us. Galatians 6:2 enjoins us to bear one another’s burdens. This enables us to fulfil the law of Christ.
The Preacher reminds us that being together and building strong relationships are not just enjoyable; they are key to success and overcoming challenges. Our relationships with one another across various aspects of life are the threads that weave a story of support, companionship, and shared purpose.
Insight: Prioritizing unity and building strong relationships within families, churches, and communities creates a strong support system where everyone thrives.
Prayer: Lord, guide me in cultivating habits that strengthen relationships. May the bonds I nurture contribute to a life filled with purpose, support, and shared joy. Amen.
