The steps of a good man are ordered by the LORD: and he delighteth in his way.
– Psalms 37:23, KJV
David in the twilight of his life, reflected on his experience of knowing and walking with God. He is, in effect, looking back on his life; a life of great victories and great failures.
It has been said, and rightly so, that one never really learns anything about themselves when victorious, but it’s in failure that one is forced to look deep into their heart and see who one is and what they are. Never forget that you may fail a test but you can still pass the course. Listen to Psalm 119:133:
Order my steps in thy word: and let not any iniquity have dominion over me.
You can be free from the dominion of iniquity when you take orders from God. By this, you will have freedom from slavery, debt, health problems, troubles, and physical enemies. Taking orders from God is freedom in Christ. God gives us orders, and commandments and expects us to obey – for our benefit!
The entire Bible is not a history book or a religious book. It is an Instruction Book; filled with examples of people who either followed the instructions and succeeded, or ignored the instructions and failed in life miserably. All of these meanings portray to us the Path of Life.
The idea is that when you give your heart to the Lord, then you embark on a journey that is planned, willed, and ordained by the Lord. The Lord has a specific plan for you. You were not saved to wander in life. The orders you obey give you authority and make you a commander. Take orders from the Bible – God’s law.
Are you trusting God enough to obey His commands? That’s faith! How often do you read this Book to learn not just truths, but commands? These are God’s instructions – God’s directions on how to live. Obey them and you will live.
May the forces of the earth and heaven begin to obey your commands in the name of Jesus. Amen.
