While we do not look at the things which are seen, but at the things which are not seen. For the things which are seen are temporary, but the things which are not seen are eternal.
– 2 Corinthians 4:18, NKJV
We live in a world consumed by comparison mentality, materialism and the pursuit of wealth. Believers must discern the value of their investments. While earthly possessions may be essential and provide comfort and security, however, they pale in comparison to the eternal treasures found in Christ.
Jesus warned against storing up treasures on earth, where moth and rust destroy and where thieves break in and steal. Instead, He encouraged us, His disciples to lay up treasures in heaven, where neither moth nor rust destroys and where thieves do not break in and steal (Matthew 6:19-20). The value of our investments should be measured not by their earthly return but by their eternal significance.
As believers, we are called to invest our time, talents, and resources in advancing God’s kingdom and serving others. This may involve sacrificial giving, sharing the Gospel, or using our gifts to minister to those in need. While earthly investments may offer temporary rewards, spiritual investments yield eternal dividends.
Insight: Fix your eyes on what is not seen but has eternal value than what is seen with a transient value. Eternal treasures can only be found in Christ.
Prayer: Lord, help me to discern the true value of my investments and to prioritize the eternal over the temporary. Amen.
