For the Son of Man has come to seek and to save that which was lost.
– Luke 19:10, NKJV
Jesus did not mince words from the start of His ministry about His purpose, who He is and why He came into existence. For all who care to understand, man was the center of Jesus’ ministry – that was God’s heart. He was not about condemnation but compassion. He came to fulfil God’s mandate from the beginning of the world to restore man to Himself.
God’s heart for the lost is rooted in His unconditional love and desire for reconciliation. Despite humanity’s rebellion and sinfulness, God’s love remains steadfast, prompting Him to take decisive action to bring salvation to the lost. Jesus Christ, the Son of God, willingly entered into human history to seek out the lost and offer them the gift of salvation.
As believers in the birth, ministry, death, resurrection and imminent return of our Saviour Jesus Christ, it is essential to grasp the depth of God’s love for the lost and share in His heart of compassion. We are called to emulate Christ’s example by actively engaging in evangelism and outreach, reaching out to the spiritually lost and sharing with them the message of hope and redemption found in Jesus Christ.
Insight: Understanding God’s heart for the lost should compel us to prioritize evangelism and soul-winning in our lives and ministries.
Prayer: Lord Jesus, help me share in Your heart for humanity and be diligent in proclaiming the gospel to those in need of your salvation.
