Listen to counsel and receive instruction, that you may be wise in your latter days.
– Proverbs 19:20, NKJV
Wisdom begins with a humble heart that is open to receiving instruction and correction. The Preacher in today’s text urges us to listen to counsel, recognizing that we do not possess all the answers and insights on our own. Seeking wise counsel from trusted mentors, spiritual leaders, and fellow believers allows us to gain valuable perspectives and insights that can inform our decision-making process.
Also, wisdom involves discerning between right and wrong, good and evil, truth and falsehood. As we immerse ourselves in God’s Word and meditate on His precepts, we develop a firm foundation of biblical principles that serve as a guiding light amid life’s complexities and moral dilemmas. The Word of God is a lamp to our feet and a light to our path, illuminating the way forward and providing clarity in times of uncertainty.
On a last note, wisdom is inseparable from a deep and intimate relationship with God. The Holy Spirit, who dwells within every believer, serves as our divine counselor and guide, leading us into all truth and empowering us to discern God’s will in every situation. As we yield to the prompting of the Spirit and surrender our plans to God’s sovereign purposes, we can trust that He will direct our steps and make our paths straight.
Insight: As Christians, we are called to seek godly counsel, rely on biblical principles, and trust in the guidance of the Holy Spirit to make wise choices that honour God and align with His purposes.
Prayer: Abba Father, give me the grace to listen to godly counsel, receive instruction from Your Word, and follow the guidance of Your Holy Spirit in all our decisions.
