Riches and honor are with me, enduring riches and righteousness.
– Proverbs 8:18 (NKJV)
This world has a majority of people obsessed with accumulating wealth and possessions. However, the book of Proverbs offers a counter-cultural, kingdom-minded perspective on true wealth. With financial prosperity, one may experience comfort and security, however, it pales in comparison to the enduring riches of wisdom, righteousness, and relationship with God.
Jesus taught that “where your treasure is, there your heart will be also” (Matthew 6:21). Instead of storing up treasures on earth, where moth and rust destroy and where thieves break in and steal, we are encouraged to store up treasures in heaven, where neither moth nor rust destroys and where thieves do not break in and steal (Matthew 6:19-20). True wealth is found not in material possessions but in the richness of our relationship with God.
As believers, we are called to seek first the kingdom of God and His righteousness, trusting that all these things will be added to us as well (Matthew 6:33). When we prioritize our relationship with God above all else, we discover a wealth beyond measure – the riches of His grace, love, and presence.
Let us not be deceived by the fleeting allure of material wealth but instead, let us pursue the true riches found in knowing and walking with God. May we treasure wisdom, righteousness, and relationship with God above all else, for in Him, we find enduring riches that far surpass any earthly possession.
Insight: True wealth can only be discovered in the depth of our connection with God, not in worldly acquisitions.
Prayer: Heavenly Father, help me to treasure wisdom, righteousness, and relationship with You above all else, knowing that true wealth is found in You alone. Amen.
